Membership & Community Events Temporary Position

The Membership & Community Events Temp will work with staff and HRC leadership to broaden HRC’s outreach and visibility, and build our grassroots membership basis.  This Temp will play an integral role in coordinating and fulfilling membership requests that come from our gift membership program, our in honor of donation program and our house party program.  Other duties will include assisting with the FUND canvassing programs day to day operations when needed and guaranteeing the accuracy of HRC’s membership/community events databases.

Responsibilities:

The Membership & Community Events Temp will have important responsibilities from the beginning of their position, as well as miscellaneous assignments as they are needed.

  • Preparing & mailing Gift Membership & In Honor of Donation requests
  • Maintaining the membership and community events database
  • Shipment of materials to organizations and volunteers
  • Assisting with the administration of the FUND canvass program
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Professional & responsible manner
  • Willingness to learn the details of membership recruitment in a non-profit setting
  • Basic proficiency in or willingness to work with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access with the ability to become adept at the use of these and other computer programs
  • Demonstrated interest in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues

Outcomes:

  • Temp will gain transferable database management and event planning skills
  • Temp will work and gain experience working with many dedicated, high-level volunteers throughout the country
  • Temp may have the opportunity to lobby on Capital Hill on behalf of LGBT issues such as the passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and Hate Crimes legislation
  • Temp will gain knowledge of HRC’s role in modern gay rights movement

Other:

  • This position will be compensated.  Dates may be flexible by 1-3 weeks
  • Full-time and part-time applicants are encouraged to apply
  • Opportunities for networking in Washington’s GLBT non-profit sector will occur via networking sessions and brown-bag lunches.
  • All of our Temp positions are based out of our offices in Washington, DC. We cannot provide housing for our Temps
