2017 is shaping up to be a critical year for Virginia’s LGBTQ community.

On Tuesday, the Virginia Senate passed SB 1323-- discriminatory legislation that seeks to give taxpayer-funded agencies and service providers a license to discriminate against LGBTQ people under the guise of religion. The bill now heads to the House.

The Virginia House of Delegates for passing HB 2025 -- discriminatory legislation that seeks to give taxpayer-funded agencies and service providers a license to discriminate against LGBTQ people under the guise of religion. Today, the General Laws Committee of the Virginia House of Delegates for advancing HB 2025 -- discriminatory legislation that seeks to give taxpayer-funded agencies and service providers a license to discriminate against LGBTQ people under the guise of religion. The anti-LGBTQ proposal is being pushed by Delegate Nicholas Freitas and will now move to the full House of Delegates. Read more here.

This week marked the start of Virginia's legislative session and 2017 is shaping up to be a critical year for Virginia’s LGBTQ community. Last week, Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed an executive order extending protections that exist on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity for state employees to contractors and in the delivery of state services.

In contrast to that victory, Delegate Bob Marshall pre-filed several bills targeting the rights of LGBTQ Virginians. HRC is calling our members and supporters in Virginia into action to oppose discriminatory legislation in your state. Take a Stand: Sign HRC’s No Hate in My State Pledge.
