I grew up in the suburbs of Buffalo, NY. When I was a Junior in High School, I decided to join then Army. I made this decision for many of the same reasons that young people decide to join the Armed Services. I wanted a secure way to get away from home and do something different before I pursued a college education.

In April 1987, I entered the Army after graduating early from high school. The military is all I ever wanted to do. I completed basic infantry training and earned my jump wings. I spent two years in Germany both with a mechanized infantry battalion and a long-range surveillance detachment.
