NEW YORK – Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, announced that Accenture will receive the HRC Corporate Equality Award at the 2016 Greater New York Gala on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. The award recognizes Accenture’s commitment to equality for the LGBT community.
“Accenture is a role model for workplace equality, and we are thrilled to recognize the company and its leadership with this year’s award,” said Deena Fidas, director of the HRC Workplace Equality Program. “Accenture continues to not only demonstrate a long-term commitment to supporting its LGBT employees through inclusive corporate policies and practices, but also to expand basic workplace fairness and equality across the globe.”
Accenture has consistently earned a perfect score of 100 on the HRC Corporate Equality Index (CEI) – the national benchmarking tool on corporate LGBT-inclusive policies and practices. Accenture is a long-term supporter of LGBT equality and was one of the first companies to sign on in support of HRC’s groundbreaking global workplace equality coalition committed to advancing LGBT workplace equality around the world. The coalition was announced last month at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in New York City.
“We are honored to be recognized by HRC for our support of fairness and equal treatment for LGBT employees,” said Ellyn Shook, Chief Human Resources Officer at Accenture. “We remain committed to an inclusive and diverse workplace – where people can feel comfortable, be themselves and, as a result, be inspired. This rich diversity makes our company stronger, smarter and more innovative, which helps us better serve the needs of our clients and our communities.”
"On behalf of the HRC Greater New York Gala Committee, we are excited to award Accenture the 2016 Corporate Equality Award,” said Craig A. Colbert, co-chair of the HRC Greater New York Gala. “Accenture has been a leader in ensuring an inclusive environment for LGBT employees, and their commitment to LGBT equality is an integral part of their global inclusion and diversity strategy. Their early support of the HRC global workplace equality coalition is evidence of this commitment."
The Greater New York Gala is one of HRC’s most prestigious events of the year, attracting more than 1,000 of the organization’s most active leaders, supporters, and members. The event regularly draws political officials from federal, state, and local governments, as well as celebrity entertainers and leaders in the business community.
