All across the United States, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) people are having important conversations about the role of faith in their lives. While there is a growing movement of American Muslims who have come to support the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ people, many LGBTQ+ Muslims, long closeted, are wondering if they might finally be open in the ummah or Muslim community.
This guide is aimed at LGBTQ+ American Muslims who are on the journey toward living fully in their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and in their faith and its traditions. These pages will offer general, overarching insights and suggestions that draw on a wide variety of Muslim voices. The hope is always to spark new ideas, new dialogue and new courage.
