Pride season is in full force in Alabama.
Post submitted by Eva Kendrick, former HRC Alabama State Manager
Pride season is in full force in Alabama. On Saturday, June 10, HRC marched alongside Central Alabama’s LGBTQ community through the streets of Birmingham, followed by a thrilling Central Alabama Pride Fest on Sunday, June 11.
On Saturday, June 17, HRC Alabama blasted off to Rocket City pride in Huntsville. Statewide LGBTQ direct-service organization Free2Be hosted Huntsville’s celebration.
And on Sunday, June 25, HRC marched through the state capital of Montgomery with leaders and community members from Montgomery Pride United. Together, we celebrated the progress LGBTQ Alabamians are making and demanded more accountability from the governor and members of the legislature.
With Southern states targeting LGBTQ rights, festivities like these are necessary for the LGBTQ community to thrive. Both Birmingham and Huntsville offered space for members across the LGBTQ community to come together and celebrate those identities that are being attacked by legislators both in Alabama and in the surrounding states.
HRC's Project One America is a comprehensive, multi-year campaign to dramatically expand LGBTQ equality in the South through permanent campaigns in Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas. Learn more here.
