HRC announced its endorsement of Chrissy Houlahan for election to the U.S. House of Representatives in Pennsylvania's 6th Congressional District.

“Chrissy Houlahan will fight for everyday Pennsylvanians and work for an America that values fairness, justice and equality,” said HRC Pennsylvania State Manager Allison Van Kuiken. “We proudly endorse her candidacy to represent Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, and look forward to working with another pro-equality voice in the United States Congress.”

“I am proud to receive the support of the Human Rights Campaign and am thankful for all they do to advocate for LGBTQ equality,” said Chrissy Houlahan. While we have made great progress toward equality in recent years, we still have much to do. This issue is deeply personal to me, and if elected to Congress I will fight to ensure we are protecting the rights of all Americans, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

As an educator, businesswoman and veteran, Houlahan has spent her career serving the people of Pennsylvania and protecting Americans’ right to feel safe. She is a strong champion of LGBTQ equality who supports marriage equality and the Equality Act, landmark federal legislation that would provide the same basic nondiscrimination protections to LGBTQ people as other protected groups under federal law.

HRC recently announced a bold, proactive grassroots expansion with the launch of HRC Rising -- a campaign to accelerate progress in states from coast-to-coast, resist the politics of hate, fight anti-LGBTQ legislation, and fuel pro-equality candidates and initiatives. The campaign is the biggest strategic expansion in the organization’s 38-year history and will include significant investments in Pennsylvania. HRC has identified more than 2,005,000 Pennsylvanians as likely Equality Voters, meaning they are strong supporters of progressive LGBTQ policies including marriage equality, adoption by LGBTQ people, and laws that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
