HRC announced its endorsement of Tippi McCullough for the Arkansas House of Representatives. McCullough is running for state representative in Arkansas’ House District 33.

After marrying her wife in 2013, McCullough was forced to resign her teaching position at a school in Little Rock after working there for 29 years. This marked a tipping point for her, motivating her to further pursue LGBTQ activism and become even more civically engaged.

“Tippi’s voice would be invaluable in the Arkansas House of Representatives, at a time when it is crucial for LGBTQ people to be a part of the conversation inside the Arkansas Capitol,” said Ben Needham, director of strategic initiatives for the Human Rights Campaign. “HRC is proud to work alongside Tippi and her campaign, and we look forward to working with her when she takes her seat under the dome.”

In 2014, HRC launched Project One America, an initiative geared towards advancing social, institutional and legal equality in Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi. HRC Arkansas continues to work to advance equality for LGBTQ Arkansans who have no state level protections in housing, workplace or public accommodations.
