HRC Mississippi volunteers and staff hosted their second annual Kentucky Derby-themed fundraiser on May 4. Called “HRC Derby Day: Racing for Equality,” this event brought people together for a fun afternoon of fellowship. It was also an important opportunity to introduce new members of our community to HRC and engage more people in the important work for full equality for everyone in Mississippi.
Patrick Ellis, WLBT/Fox 40 meteorologist and #LoveYourNeighbor participant, served as guest host for the event, which featured local musician Chad Wesley and his band. There was also a silent auction with prizes that included dinner for four at the home of renowned Oxford chef John Currence and a live painting created by artist Ellen Langford.
The volunteers and staff at HRC Mississippi are grateful to our sponsors, auction donors and to everyone who attended this important event. The love and support from our community show that LGBTQ Mississippians deserve access to more inclusive, affirming and safe spaces.
