HRC Mississippi was proud to host its inaugural HRC Derby Day: Racing for Equality event at the historic Fairview Inn in Jackson on May 5. HRC staff, members and supporters of equality gathered in seersucker suits and elegant hats to watch this year’s Kentucky Derby, with entertainment provided by local band Heart Society. Artist Ellen Langford creatively captured the spirit of the event with a live painting. Our guest of honor was actor and Mississippi native Kit Williamson, known for his roles in shows such as “Mad Men” and “the Eastsiders.”

This inaugural Derby Day event underscores why HRC Mississippi fights for LGBTQ equality in the Magnolia State. The love and support from our community shows that LGBTQ Mississippians deserve access to more inclusive, affirming and safe spaces.
