As Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination hangs in the balance, HRC, Alaskans Together, Equality Maine and National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) launched full-page newspaper ads in Alaska and Maine highlighting the grave threat he poses to LGBTQ equality, reproductive rights and the Affordable Care Act if confirmed to the Supreme Court.
The ads, appearing in Maine Sunday Telegram, Anchorage Daily News and Bangor Daily News, encourage fair-minded Mainers and Alaskans to contact Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME), to make their voices heard about the dangers of a Justice Kavanaugh.

Earlier this month, HRC released two powerful videos focusing on the dangers Kavanaugh poses to the Affordable Care Act and the transgender community.
Laura, the mother of a transgender child featured in the video below, also penned a powerful oped in the Press Herald about how her son and other children like him could lose crucial protections against discrimination if Kavanaugh is confirmed.
The full-page ads appeared in the Bangor Daily News on Saturday, and on Sunday in the Maine Sunday Telegram and the Anchorage Daily News.
HRC was an early opponent of Kavanaugh’s nomination. As a federal judge, Kavanaugh ruled that an employer's religious beliefs should be allowed to override their workers’ access to birth control — the same argument anti-LGBTQ extremists use to advocate for a license discriminate against LGBTQ people.
During Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, he repeatedly refused to answer basic questions from Senator Kamala Harris on whether the landmark Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges, legalizing marriage equality throughout the U.S., was decided correctly.
The American Ledger reported this week that while in private practice, Kavanaugh defended a company accused of failing to provide adequate care to Alabama prison inmates living with HIV.
There is no doubt that Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court will dramatically shift the balance of the Supreme Court for generations. HRC continues to urge people nationwide to text SAVE SCOTUS to 30644 and ask your senator to stop Kavanaugh.
