What do newly elected Alabama senator, Doug Jones, HRC’s national press secretary, Sarah McBride, and NAESM (National AIDS Education & Services for Minorities) executive director, Darwin Thompson, have in common? They are all featured in the latest issue of Equality – HRC’s flagship publication, free to members!
This issue, we also took a closer look at “Equality Voters” — Americans who support pro-LGBTQ causes who are set to turn the political tide in the 2018 midterm elections. Ohian Carolyn Newberry, a longtime ally of the LGBTQ community, explains, “I’m not afraid to say that I don’t like what’s happening anymore...and will vote for the rights of people who need them.” Read more.
Equality also spoke with HRC Global director Ty Cobb on how the international equality movement is taking a backseat under the Trump-Pence administration, with deadly consequences. “U.S. leadership stepping back on these issues has created a vacuum for unchecked human rights abuses against LGBTQ people in many countries,” Cobb said.
