WASHINGTON– The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, tonight congratulated U.S. Senator Susan Collins of Maine on her re-election. HRC President Chad Griffin issued the following statement:
"Senator Collins has more than earned this new term in the United States Senate. As a leading supporter of efforts to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’, guarantee workplace protections for all Americans, and implement a strong federal hate crimes law, she has made a real difference in the lives of LGBT Mainers and their families. I am eager to continue our work together over these next six years as HRC fights to pass a comprehensive LGBT civil rights bill that will finally guarantee LGBT Americans equal non-discrimination protections under federal law."
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. HRC envisions a world where LGBT people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.
