WASHINGTON -- Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization, announced its endorsement of Julie Johnson to represent House District 115 in the Texas House of Representatives.
“Julie Johnson is a champion for working families who will fight for every day Texans,” said HRC Senior Vice President for Policy and Political Affairs JoDee Winterhof. “We proudly endorse her candidacy to represent Texas House District 115 and look forward to working with another strong, pro-equality voice in the Texas Legislature.”
"It’s time to choose what our Texas of tomorrow looks like. Will we go down the path of hate and waste or will we make sure that Texas is a place where businesses and all families can flourish?" said Julie Johnson. "This choice demands leaders who put the needs of our state above the needs of any party. We have invested too much time on issues that don’t truly matter to the people of Texas. That's why I am running for HD-115. I am running to bring back common sense based on common values-- to do what is right for my fellow Texans, and to ensure that the ability to write laws in a bipartisan manner is not lost in the Texas House of Representatives. I am pleased to be endorsed by the Human Rights campaign and look forward to working with them once elected."
Johnson lives in Dallas, TX with her wife, Dr. Susan Moster and their two sons. A long time small business owner, she has spent her career serving the people of Texas and fighting for equality, fairness and justice. The choice between Johnson and incumbent State Rep. Matt Rinaldi could not be clearer. While Johnson will fight to ensure the equal treatment of every Texan, Rinaldi is a hard-right legislator who sponsored Texas’ failed anti-transgender bill last session and enjoys support from some the state’s most egregious anti-equality groups.
The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work, and in every community.
