Human Rights Campaign to re-open seasonal pop-up retail location in The Pines; and, for the first time, outposts in Cherry Grove.

7/23/2014

WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) – the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization – will open a temporary retail location in historic Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove.  Located in the heart of one of the most well-known LGBT summer destinations, the HRC pop-up shop and outposts will offer visitors a unique opportunity to support the organization’s work for nationwide LGBT equality.   The Pop-up Shop in The Pines will be open for business from July 23rd - August 4th in the Pavilion Shops on Fire Island Boulevard.   The Cherry Grove outposts will be open for business on Saturdays:  July 26th at Sandcastle on Lewis Walk  and August 2nd at Cherry’s on Bayview Walk.

"Without the generosity of Fire Island proprietors like Donna Bianco, Jacquelyn Piazza, Andrew Kirtzman, and FIP Ventures General Manager Brian Richards and his staff, this temporary pop-up store would not even be possible," said Dolores Covrigaru, HRC Fire Island Events Coordinator. "It's thanks to them, along with the respective owners of the Sand Castle on the Ocean; Cherry’s on the Bay; and The Madison, that HRC is able to effectively hold a presence in the Fire Island community.”

HRC will unveil its limited-edition Fire Island tank top, hoody and Boardwalk swimsuit, exclusively for the Fire Island locations.  Available for a $25 contribution, the limited-edition Anchor Tank on a super-soft cotton-blend will be offered at all Fire Island locations.  Also, designed exclusively for HRC and available for $50 contributions are the limited-edition Ferry Hoody and Boardwalk square cut swimsuits.   In sizes SM-2X, the tank, hoody and swimsuit set is a perfect way to remember 2014 - the summer of equality.   In addition, the pop-up shop will feature a number of other membership premiums including equality sunglasses, beach towels, and select Love Conquers Hate items.

A series of events will accompany the pop-up shops; more details can be found at https://www.facebook.com/hrcgreaterny.

HRC has previously opened pop-up locations in Palm Springs, CA; Chicago, IL; New York City; Rehoboth Beach, DE; Charlotte, NC and New Orleans, LA.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
