“We know that we’re stronger together than apart. That’s why we’re proud to support an unprecedented coalition of Michiganders working to mobilize voters.”
Today the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) – America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for LGBTQ+ people – awarded a $350,000 grant to Hate Won’t Win to mobilize Michigan’s nearly 1.2 million voters this election season.
Human Rights Campaign Michigan State Director Amritha Venkataraman released the following statement:
“We know that we’re stronger together than apart. That’s why we’re proud to support an unprecedented coalition of Michiganders working to mobilize voters.”
The Human Rights Campaign and Equality Michigan - the leading LGBTQ+ organizations in Michigan - formed Hate Won’t Win in an unprecedented grassroots movement of local community centers, state and local advocacy organizations, and national partners to make sure voters of all types are not silenced in 2022. This year, Hate Won’t Win has knocked on 70,000 doors across Michigan and is one of the two largest canvassing efforts in the state. They’ve also secured 38,000 pledges to vote for equality candidates this November. Through a combination of door-to-door conversations, phone calls, and digital communication the coalition will engage voters in 2022, proving that hate won’t win.
The investment in Hate Won’t Win is part of HRC’s efforts to turn out voters in Michigan and elsewhere. This effort comes at a time when extremist anti-equality judges and politicians around the country and in Michigan are trying to strip away the rights of LGBTQ+ people, women, and people of color.
