WASHINGTON— Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) — the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization — congratulated HRC-endorsed Senator Michael Bennet on his reelection.
Human Rights Campaign National Campaign Director Geoff Wetrosky released the following statement:
Sen. Bennet received a score of 94 out of 100 on HRC’s recently released Congressional Scorecard for the 117th Congress, which scored members of Congress based on a range of key indicators of support — including votes in the Senate to confirm historic, pro-LGBTQ+ Biden-Harris cabinet officials and judicial nominees, as well as co-sponsorships on pieces of legislation that significantly impact LGBTQ+ people and their families. He is a co-sponsor of the Equality Act, which would provide consistent and explicit non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people across key areas of life, including employment, housing, credit, public spaces and services, and more. He is also a co-sponsor of several HRC-supported bills, including the Safe Schools Improvement Act of 2021, the Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act and the Every Child Deserves a Family Act.
HRC’s Commitment to Colorado
HRC worked this year to engage our volunteers, members and supporters to mobilize the nearly 1.6 million Equality Voters in Colorado in support of Senator Bennet and other pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot. Equality Voters are a voting bloc of demographically and geographically diverse Americans who are united by the advancement of LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, they recognize and trust the HRC brand, and they are more likely to identify with issue-specific organizations than candidates or political parties.
