In a few short years, Governor Sisolak has helped further Nevada’s amazing strides toward LGBTQ+ equality
WASHINGTON — Today the Human Rights Campaign PAC (HRC PAC) announced its endorsement of Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak for another term in office. HRC PAC is committed to engaging our volunteers, members and supporters to mobilize the 700,000+ Equality Voters in Nevada in support of Sisolak and other pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot.
Human Rights Campaign Interim President Joni Madison released the following statement:
“In a few short years, Governor Sisolak has helped further Nevada’s amazing strides toward LGBTQ+ equality, and the Human Rights Campaign is proud to endorse his campaign for reelection. The package of bills that he signed last year, all devoted to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ people in the state, serve to increase equity when it comes to expanding LGBTQ+ businesses, improving HIV care, gathering better demographic data on LGBTQ+ populations and more. Now is the time for Nevada to build on that progress and elect Governor Sisolak to another term in office.”
Governor Steve Sisolak released the following statement:
“In Nevada, our diversity is our strength, but that strength is only realized when everyone is afforded an equal playing field. Over the last three years, we’ve made needed progress prioritizing equality and inclusion among our LGBTQ+ community – but I’m always looking ahead to what more we can do. I’m glad to have the Human Rights Campaign in this fight with me and look forward to all we can accomplish in a second term.”
A Record as a Champion of Equality
Governor Steve Sisolak was endorsed by HRC in his 2018 race for governor and has been a strong ally to the LGBTQ+ community since he was elected. In June 2021, Governor Sisolak signed four bills – SB109, SB237, SB275 and SB325 – aimed at improving LGBTQ+ equity. The legislation will help expand LGBTQ+ businesses, help provide equal access and opportunities to LGBTQ+ people, expand resources for pharmacists to provide care for HIV-positive people and mandate that local governments gather more demographic info on their constituents.
HRC’s Commitment to Nevada
Equality Voters, including the 700,000+ in Nevada, are a voting bloc of demographically and geographically diverse Americans who are united by the advancement of LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, they recognize and trust the HRC brand, and they are more likely to identify with issue-specific organizations than candidates or political parties.
Across the country, HRC works every day to elect pro-equality leaders who support policies that will support the rights and lives of LGBTQ+ people. During the 2020 election cycle, HRC staff on the ground recruited 5,800 individual volunteers nationwide who completed 28,500 hours of voter contact in more than 2,650 volunteer events. HRC engaged in robust digital and online GOTV efforts, including sending over 2.7 million person-to-person text messages, a massive increase from 2018 when approximately 500,000 texts were sent. HRC sent over 2.5 million mail pieces, had over 930,000 phone conversations with voters, and engaged more than 200,000 voters through HRC’s voter dashboard at hrc.org/vote.
