Of the 151 companies that participated in Equidad CL, a record 70 obtained top scores

In addition to committed companies that have participated in previous years, this year saw a 45% increase in new companies taking part in the survey from 2023

WASHINGTON — Today, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRCF), the educational arm of the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization, released the 2024 iteration of the Equidad Chile (CL) report. For the past six years, HRCF’s Workplace Equality Program, in partnership with Fundación Iguales and with the support of Pride Connection Chile, has been implementing a benchmarking tool for Chilean and multinational companies. The tool helps companies and organizations assess their workplace inclusion efforts for the LGBTI+ community. Companies that earn a score of 100 achieve the certification of “Best Places to Work LGBTI+ 2024.” The number of companies earning the HRC Equidad CL certification increased by 23% (13 additional companies) from last year. This is substantial growth from the first year when HRC Equidad CL 2019 recognized 15 companies as "Best Places to Work for LGBTI+ Talent” and 31 companies participating overall, reflecting a 387% increase in participating companies.

The 2024 Equidad Chile report shows a substantial increase in the number of companies committed to welcoming and supporting LGBTI+ talent in Chile, as well as further growth in the number of Chilean companies that achieved the survey certification. In total, 17 Chilean-owned companies were recognized as ‘Best Places to Work for LGBTI+ Employees,’ the highest on record."

Emilio Maldonado, Implementing Partner for HRC Equidad CL

Businesses participating in the Equidad CL index this year employ 402,723 people, of which 29% were employees at a business that achieved the highest score.

We are delighted with the incredible work being done to promote equality in Chile. This year, the business sector has demonstrated enthusiasm and dedication in workplace equity and inclusion with more than 150 companies participating in the index and 70 companies achieving the ‘Best Places to Work for LGBTI+ Employees in Chile.’ We look forward to continuing this work and raising the standard to support workplaces across Chile and the rest of the world to create an environment that empowers all people."

Rashawn “Shawnie” Hawkins, SHRM, Senior Director of the HRC Workplace Equality Program

This year, companies from an additional region—Región de Valparaíso—outside of the Chilean metropolitan area participated in the survey. Out of the companies surveyed, 96.6% provide opportunities for education and training specifically for diversity and Inclusion that explicitly includes nondiscrimination related to sexual orientation and gender identity, an over 10% increase from the 2023 report. Additionally, 56.4% of the organizations measured have benefits for trans employees, and 48.9% of companies extend benefits to trans children of their employees.

The HRC Equidad CL program is modeled after HRC’s Corporate Equality Index–the premier LGBTQ+ workplace equality benchmarking survey in the U.S. Top-scoring companies lead the way on LGBTQ+ inclusion and equity, and earn the HRC Foundation’s designation of “Equality 100: Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion,” or in Chile “Mejores Lugares para Trabajar LGBTI+ 2024,” for their commitment to creating inclusive workplaces for LGBTI+ employees.
