Progressive Community Leader Pledges to Carry His Vision for Lasting Change on the National Level
WASHINGTON — Today the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization, announced its endorsement of Gresham City Councilor Eddy Morales in the race for Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District seat. HRC PAC is committed to engaging its volunteers, members and supporters to mobilize the more than 300,000 Equality Voters in OR-03 in support of Morales and other pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot.
Morales has sat on the Gresham City Council for six years, taking charge in creating affordable housing for working families and advocating for underrepresented communities in a host of other areas as well. He previously fought to restore voting rights in Florida, supported targeted immigrants in Arizona, and joined Stacey Abrams to help flip Georgia blue. He is slated to be the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress from Oregon.
HRC’s Commitment to OR-03
Equality Voters, including the more than 300,000 in OR-03, are a voting bloc of demographically and geographically diverse Americans who are united by the advancement of LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, they recognize and trust the HRC brand, and they are more likely to identify with issue-specific organizations than candidates or political parties. With this endorsement, HRC PAC will work to engage and mobilize Equality Voters in support of Morales.
