Military Veteran with Proven LGBTQ+ Allyship in Congress Pledges to Deliver on the Same Pro-Equality Record in the U.S. Senate
WASHINGTON — Today the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization, announced its endorsement of Congressman Ruben Gallego in the race to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate. HRC PAC is committed to engaging its volunteers, members and supporters to mobilize the nearly 1.3 million Equality Voters in Arizona in support of Gallego and other pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot.
After serving as a Marine in Iraq, Gallego led ballot initiatives as a Phoenix organizer and later served in the Arizona State House. Following his election to Congress in 2014, he rose to be the highest-ranking Latino on the House Armed Services Committee and Chairman of the Intelligence and Special Operations Subcommittee. Serving on these committees, he plays a critical role in overseeing the operations and priorities of America’s special forces and intelligence community. Congressman Gallego was an original co-sponsor of the Equality Act, which would expand nondiscrimination protections, and serves as a Vice Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus.
HRC’s Commitment to Arizona
Equality Voters, including the nearly 1.3 million in Arizona, are a voting bloc of demographically and geographically diverse Americans who are united by the advancement of LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, they recognize and trust the HRC brand, and they are more likely to identify with issue-specific organizations than candidates or political parties. With this endorsement, HRC PAC will work to engage and mobilize Equality Voters in support of Gallego.
