Results underscore excitement and momentum on the ground for supporting the Harris-Walz ticket and turning the page on Donald Trump’s hate and division
Volunteers joined by pro-equality champions like First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Governor Tim Walz, Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walz, and Secretary Pete Buttigieg in working to get LGBTQ+ voters, allies to the polls
Events spanned every battleground state, in addition to states with competitive and historic races featuring pro-equality candidates
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Over the course of just 10 days, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) – the nation's largest LGBTQ+ civil rights advocacy group – and its political arms successfully filled 1,426 new volunteer shifts and held 174 individual events across 12 different states as part of a 10 Days of Action barnstorm of battleground states to mobilize and turn out LGBTQ+ and allied voters to deliver major pro-equality wins up and down the ballot this November and highlight the importance of LGBTQ+ issues including those on the ballot.
The number of new volunteer shifts far exceeds HRC’s initial recruitment goals of approximately 1,200, sending a clear and resounding message that voters on the ground are fired up and excited to elect the Harris-Walz ticket and that LGBTQ+ and allied voters remain a critically important and engaged voting bloc.
“Over the course of just ten days, with 174 events and more than 1,400 new volunteer shifts filled in a dozen states, the message is undeniably clear – the LGBTQ+ community is strong, powerful, and not taking a single vote for granted,” said Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson. “But our work is far from over. We plan to spend every day until the election making sure everyone we know is registered to vote and has a plan to vote because no one is going to give us the future we deserve – we have to fight for it and show America that when we show up, equality wins. Together, we will elect pro-equality leaders like Vice President Harris and Governor Walz who value our communities and are ready to lead us forward with more freedom and opportunity.”
The 10 Days of Action push kicked off on Thursday, October 10, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walz, HRC, the Out for Harris-Walz coalition, and state and local LGBTQ+ leaders, community members, and candidates. The effort concluded on Sunday, October 20, in Phoenix, Arizona, with HRC President Kelley Robinson marching in the Phoenix Pride parade and canvassing with local and state LGBTQ+ leaders and organizers.
The more than 170 events included canvass kick-offs for pro-equality and LGBTQ+ candidates like Sen. Tammy Baldwin, Sen. Bob Casey, Will Rollins, Mondaire Jones, Kristian Carranza, Julie Johnson, and David Min and were attended by other pro-equality champions like First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Governor Tim Walz, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
There were also national organizing calls with the Out for Harris-Walz coalition featuring actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, reality TV mogul Andy Cohen, U.S. Rep. Robert Garcia, and Delaware State Senator and Congressional candidate Sarah McBride as well as virtual and in-person opportunities to phone bank, knock doors, register to vote, donate, and lift up the voices of HBCU students.
HRC leveraged the power of digital to amplify the 10 Days of Action, enabling individuals to drive voter mobilization from anywhere. Influential voices and officials like Brita Filter, Madison Werner, Tammy Baldwin, and Mrs. Walz engaged in our content, sharing personalized messages and actions that inspire others. HRC continues to equip the community with the tools they need to make a transformative impact this election season through fun innovation engagement tools like the Out to Vote Generator and tailored resources that have reached millions across HRC’s social media channels.
10 Days of Action events were held in every battleground state, including Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Nevada in addition to New York, California, Ohio, Maryland, and Texas, where pro-equality, LGBTQ+ candidates are running and are poised to help build pro-equality majorities in Congress.
