fun. Guitarist Speaks Out for Marriage for Gay and Lesbian Couples Nationwide
WASHINGTON – Today the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, released a video ad featuring Jack Antonoff of the band fun. for its Americans for Marriage Equality campaign. In the video, Antonoff calls on people to “Join me, my band mates and the majority of Americans in the fight for marriage equality nationwide.” The videos can be viewed online at www.hrc.org/marriageequality.
“Every day more and more Americans are speaking out in support of marriage for committed and loving gay and lesbian couples,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “I am so grateful to Jack Antonoff and his fun. band mates for helping to educate and engage their millions of fans in the fight for marriage equality in America.”
Jack Antonoff is the guitarist for the band fun., whose song “We Are Young (Feat. Janelle Monáe)” is the highest-selling single yet of 2012. The song is featured on fun.’s critically acclaimed sophomore release, Some Nights, which follows their 2009 debut, Aim & Ignite. Entertainment Weekly named fun. one of their “30 Greatest Artists of Right Now” earlier this year. An outspoken advocate for equal rights and marriage equality, Antonoff recently published a blog post on The Huffington Post’s “Gay Voices,” entitled “Straight Allies: The Importance and the Realities.” The band has named Revel & Riot, an organization that promotes LGBTQ rights, awareness and equality through art, design and education resources, their official charity partner for their current tour.
This is the twenty-third release by HRC for the Americans campaign. About 53% of the American public supports marriage for same-sex couples, according to a number of nonpartisan polls, including Gallup, CNN, and Washington Post/ABC News.
Americans for Marriage Equality is a public engagement campaign featuring prominent Americans who support committed gay and lesbian couples getting married. The campaign draws from a cadre of supportive professional athletes, film and music celebrities, and political and civic leaders.
