Pro-LGBTQ+ Coalition Hate Won't Win Launches Digital Message to Mobilize Michigan Equality Voters for 2022 Elections

by HRC Staff

Lansing, MICHIGAN – Hate Won’t Win, Michigan’s statewide coalition of LGBTQ+ organizations and allies, launched a digital ad earlier today to mobilize Michigan’s nearly 1.2 million Equality voters this upcoming election season. Formed by the Human Rights Campaign and Equality Michigan - the leading LGBTQ+ organizations in Michigan - Hate Won’t Win is a unique grassroots movement of local community centers, state and local advocacy organizations, and national partners to make sure LGBTQ+ voices are not silenced in 2022. Through a combination of door to door conversations, phone calls, and digital communication the coalition will move Equality Voters to vote in 2022, proving that hate won’t win.

Human Rights Campaign Michigan State Director Amritha Venkataraman released the following statement:

“Our rights are under attack here in Michigan, and it’s critical now more than ever to elect leaders who will advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. Here at HRC, we know that our strength is in numbers. It’s vital that we partner with our allies - sharing our collective resources, knowledge, and motivations - to get the vote out. We’re ready to get to work through Hate Won’t Win to mobilize Equality Voters and elect leaders who will advance equal rights for all Michiganders.
We’ve already seen some candidates launch outright smear campaigns against the LGBTQ+ community, solidifying our call to action. Hate has no place in Michigan.”

HRC’s Commitment to Michigan

Equality Voters, including the nearly 1.2 million in Michigan, are a voting bloc of demographically and geographically diverse Americans who are united by the advancement of LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, they recognize and trust the HRC brand, and they are more likely to identify with issue-specific organizations than candidates or political parties.

The HRC PAC works every day to elect pro-equality leaders who advocate for policies that will support the rights and lives of LGBTQ+ people. During the 2020 election cycle, HRC staff on the ground in Michigan recruited 875 individual volunteers nationwide who completed 12,000 hours of voter contact in more than 231 volunteer events in the state. HRC engaged in robust digital and online GOTV efforts, including sending over 120,000 calls to Michigan voters. HRC will continue to build on these efforts through Hate Won’t Win, an unprecedented coalition to mobilize the nearly 1.2 million Equality Voters in Michigan.
