The Human Rights Campaign Releases 8th Annual Equidad MX Report, Recognizes 305 Employers in Mexico for Their Commitment to LGBTQ+ Equality

by Kathryn Smith

Today, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRCF), the educational arm of the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization, released its eighth annual Equidad MX report, a survey reviewing LGTQ+ inclusion efforts among workplaces throughout Mexico. The initiative, inspired by HRC's annual Corporate Equality Index (CEI), was HRC's first in-country program in Latin America. Equidad MX's success spurred the establishment of three additional workplace equality programs in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. Of the 305 companies included in the 2025 Equidad MX index, 89 are part of the list of “Las 500 Empresas Expansión 2024.” Of these 89 from the list, 79 achieved a score of 100%.

This year’s index includes the same number of participating companies as 2024, which reflects a 1000% growth from the program’s inaugural year in 2016. Of the more than 1.4 million employees benefiting from inclusive measures at these companies, 27,133 are part of their LGBTQ+ ERGs – nearly 5,000 more than last year.

We are pleased to see so many companies returning to be scored by Equidad MX. When LGBTQ+ employees feel protected and supported by their employers, we know that this leads to happier workers and better business. We will continue to push for more businesses to take on these initiatives until all LGBTQ+ people feel the support that they deserve from their employers.

RaShawn “Shawnie” Hawkins, Senior Director of the HRC Foundation's Workplace Equality Program

Of the 261 companies certified this year, 114 companies achieved the maximum score in more than two countries where the HRC Foundation has this certification. Additionally, seven companies achieved the maximum scores in all five HRC workplace equality indices: Accenture, Bayer de México, The Boston Consulting Group México, EY México, J.P. Morgan, Medtronic México, and SAP México.

In this eighth year of work, we can clearly see the maturity with which many companies approach LGBTQ+ inclusion in their strategies. Training and education programs remain a specific focus, as we are committed to ensuring that companies continue to find better ways for their staff to navigate day-to-day interactions with LGBTQ+ individuals and other diverse groups, fostering more equitable and inclusive workplaces.

Francisco Robledo, HRC Equidad MX Implementing Partner

Over the past few years, we have clearly witnessed the progress of participating companies, marked by the consolidation of their programs and inclusion strategies for LGBTQ+ individuals. We could say that the Equidad programs are distinguishing themselves as unique in the Latin American region

Fernando Valázquez, HRC Equidad MX Implementing Partner

During the 2023 cycle, the criteria in the report evolved to include internal LGBTQ+ training and educational best practices, going beyond the original requirements: adoption of nondiscrimination policies, diversity and inclusion councils or ERGs, public engagement, and activities to support LGBTQ+ inclusion.
