HRC worked to mobilize more than 1.4 million Equality Voters across the state

Tonight, Human Rights Campaign (HRC)-endorsed candidate John Hickenlooper won his election to the U.S. Senate, defeating anti-equality incumbent Sen. Cory Gardner.

Senator-elect Hickenlooper committed that should he be elected, he would co-sponsor and vote in favor of the Equality Act, crucial federal legislation that would finally guarantee explicit protections for LGBTQ people under our nation's existing civil rights laws.

“Tonight, Coloradans made their voices heard and united for equality by electing pro-equality champion John Hickenlooper to the U.S. Senate,” said Human Rights Campaign President Alphonso David. “In the most consequential election of our lifetimes, the Human Rights Campaign has organized more than 1.4 million Equality Voters across the state and we are proud to have helped John Hickenlooper across the finish line. We celebrate this incredible moment and tomorrow we look forward to working with John Hickenlooper alongside a pro-equality Senate and a pro-equality House majority to pass the Equality Act and enshrine protections for all LGBTQ people.”
